We live in a microwave world; a world where you can get instant anything. From drive through dinners to fast acting cold medicines, microwaveable popcorn, drive-thru banking and even drive through pharmacies and liquor stores, there isn’t anything you can’t have and have now with one exception; personal success.

Achieving personal success is not an instantaneous process. Any successful person will be able to tell you that it takes time, effort, energy and attention to detail to create a plan for personal success and then to follow that plan through to its conclusion.

It is one of the downfalls of our society that we have all the tools and technology necessary to create a world where we can achieve goals faster, more effectively and more efficiently than ever before and yet that it is these very tools that have created a society that can’t seem to wait five minutes for a hamburger, let alone lay the groundwork for a long term plan for personal success and then take the steps necessary to achieve it.

If you wish to attain personal success you need to wean yourself off of the “get instant results” mentality that has crept like a plague through our culture. You have to understand and accept the fact that the results you are looking for are not going to happen overnight; that there are certain steps you are going to have to take (and in a certain order) in order for your dream to become a reality. Accepting this will probably go against everything you feel to be ‘logical’ or ‘rational.’ Nevertheless, cultivating patience is a must if you are going to see your plan through to conclusion.

One thing that can help as you break down your plan into manageable steps is to give yourself rewards for each step that you accomplish, for those who have been immersed in the “microwave” society this can be a way to wean yourself off of the need for instant results. A reward of some sort helps to keep you focused not on the goal itself (which may seem unobtainable, especially at first) and help you to focus instead on the next step in the process that will help you to reach that goal.

Another technique is to talk as if the goal has already been accomplished. Tell yourself that it was really far simpler than you thought it would be. Talk about your future goal in the past tense, as if it is already a part of your reality; talk about the mindset you had to cultivate in order to get to that point. Before you know it, you’ll be thinking exactly that way yourself.

And finally, accept the fact that there are going to be setbacks and delays. Real life does not always work as smoothly – or as quickly – as the way we think things “should.” No matter how big the delay or the setback, you can’t let it discourage you. You will achieve your goals; you just have to believe that it is possible and understand that success is not going to be instantaneous.

Are you living your life to the fullest? The vast majority of people would answer in the negative to this question. Goal setting is something that many people participate in, but how many actually follow through? Your personal goals are only as good as your dedication.

All too often, people settle for second best. It’s not necessarily a bad life, but it’s not exactly where they thought they’d be, either. This is a decision that each person has to make . . . to give up on striving for success or to keep pushing forward. Rather than give up, make the decision to start investing in self and to focus on those goals and make them happen. Your quality of life will improve drastically.

Once you’ve made the decision to live a goal based life, you need to look at goal setting realistically. Making a million dollars may be realistic to some, but it’s usually better to start out with a smaller goal, one that you can achieve within a reasonable amount of time. Don’t just lay out your 1 year, 5 year and 10 year goals, make actual plans as to how you will reach those and don’t forget to allow some time for wandering off the path, because that’s bound to happen when you lose motivation from time to time.

The next step is to set up some method of accountability. Enlist a friend, spouse or blog readers to keep you on track. Write your goals down so they are set out and can be referred back to as needed. You’d be surprised at how easy it is to forget your exact goals over the years. The trick is to keep them in front of you at all times. Mark the steps to reaching your personal goals on the calendar and let your accountability partner know about them. Then follow up and make sure you stick to your path.

There’s no reason to settle for a mediocre life when you could have so much more. Dare to dream, but don’t stop there! Take it a step further and make those dreams become reality. Live a goal based life where your dedication to making a good life for yourself and your family takes precedence. You can make it work, but first you need to make the decision to step up to the plate and take on the challenge to be all that you can be.

Nothing motivates most people like success; people will do almost anything to attain this mythical destination. So why then isn’t everyone successful? The answer is twofold and pretty easy to understand, most people fall into one of two categories; those that are successful and do not know it and those that are afraid of success.

The first category may sound strange, however once you understand a good definition of success, it will make more sense. Success is when you are fulfilled, plain and simple whether are the CEO of a fortune five hundred company or the greeter at a department store, if your life is full and you are really happy, and then you are successful.

Because we have been led to believe that success is somehow measured with money or possessions, there are plenty of successful people out there that do not realize it. That leads to the other category, the ones with the fear. There are people although they may not realize it that allow fear to control them, no one works fourteen hours a day and complains about ever minute and is not controlled by fear.

Keeping in mind that for most fear is your main source of motivation it is easy to see how the majority of people allow fear to control them. The biggest problem with fear running your life is that you will never be able to attain success because the fear will never let you feel fulfilled, and that the fear will take away the one thing that makes us human, our ability to make decisions.

In order to be able to make well informed decisions you must have balance, this means that no one part of your life takes priority over another. In order to be successful you must have not only financial stability, but emotional and physical stability also.

Without these two parts you cannot become successful and if someway, somehow you do; you will never be able to enjoy it. There always needs to be some time set aside for just living, playing with your dog, talking to your kids. While most find the physically fit part of the equation attainable, the emotional side of things is a bit more difficult.

This returns you to the fear and how it can control you. Have you ever met someone that never seemed to get angry, they always seemed in complete control, this is a balanced person in touch with their emotions? Most people believe that emotions just happen, we cannot control when we get angry. While it is true you cannot stop it, you can however control your response.

When you start to control the response you are becoming, more and more emotionally healthy, and more balanced. Everyone would like to be successful; however it is important to remember that without balance you will never enjoy the success you obtain.

A person without a goal is someone who is toying along different directions with no clear purpose and target in life. The same person would soon realize how much time he has wasted by drifting through life based on day to day decisions without a larger purpose in mind. The fact is setting goals is not just about achieving success, but experiencing an enriching journey while on the process of acquiring your goal. There is so much to be had when you have set your goals in life. One of which is achieving self-development.

How is self-development achieved when setting goals?

For one, setting goals is a sign of maturity in a person. A clear cut objective will help develop motivation and forces you to practice some of the important values in life like determination, perseverance and discipline. Setting a goal will also give you a clear road map on which direction you want to lead your life. This will enhance your self-esteem as you know what you want to achieve and how to get there. People who lack goals in life have no clear cut directions and are just relying on fate and luck to lead their life. Albeit there is no guarantee that you will achieve every goal, what matters most is the growing process that you will experience whilst making that journey that will enable you to take on similar or even greater opportunities. Having a goal is also giving purpose and direction in your life. Hence, your life becomes more meaningful because you are striving to fulfill something that will ultimately bring satisfaction.

Setting goals will also spark your creative thinking and bring out your fullest potential. The road towards your goals is an exhilarating road of discovery about yourself. You would be amazed to find out the many possible things that you are capable of doing that you would have not discovered if you didn’t set your goals and took action. Hence, personal development is one of the blessings of goal setting. When you have a goal, you would focus on your strengths to achieve that goal. Self-development is also about feeding on your strengths and amplifying them. This will also help develop your self-confidence and self-worth. Of course, there is no better way to experience fulfillment and self-confidence than achieving your goals.

Setting goals and taking action will also help you manage obstacles along the way. As you have your eyes fixed on your target, you will learn how to get away from the constraints that are slowing you down in achieving your goal. You will learn how to eliminate road blocks and move on to the next challenge. Each challenge may give you a lesson, an experience or an opportunity. Every time you win a challenge is an accomplishment in itself that will boost your self-esteem and inspire you to move forward to your journey.

If you want to discover yourself and uncover your hidden potentials, setting a goal is a must. In the end success is not just about getting to your destination, but as well as how the journey has shaped your personality into a better individual.

As a child, many people are encouraged to “reach for the stars.” School children are told that they “can do anything, even be President” and “change the world.” Young minds and imaginations are told to dream big dreams about being anything they want when they grow up. Parents, teachers, and mentors are on to something. Indeed, both a vision and dreams are imperative for success.

Unfortunately, as children grow up and experience disappointments and failures in life, the vision fades and the dreams stop. As they become better acquainted with the realities of life and hardships in the world, people begin to view their dreams as unattainable and impossible. They begin to question whether they are capable of the greatness they once envisioned and whether it is possible to really make a difference.

In the hustle and bustle of life, individuals get sucked into monotonous schedules and everyday responsibilities. Simply fighting to make ends meet and struggling to be both parent and provider easily overcome optimism. It can be hard to see the light over the enormous stack of bills, debt, laundry, and family problems.

This is a big part of the reason that so many people are unhappy with life. They haven’t received from it what they once knew in their heart was completely possible. Once upon a time, they had big dreams and aspirations. Over the years it slips away until there is nothing left but a dead end job and uninspired individual.

People need to catch the vision again. There is something to be done about unhappiness. All it takes is remembering the dream, the passion, and the hope for a better life. Outlining exactly what one desires from life will give him a roadmap to success, and there is no other way to reach it if not with a vision.

An individual must know himself first and then define the dream. He must consider those things in life that bring him purpose and a sense of meaning. Going back to this vision will help him stay focused and overcome the obstacles that lay in his way until the day comes when the dream is made a successful reality. Adults are not often told to dream, but it is as vital for them as it is for children just beginning to realize their potential and self-worth.

While life never resembles a fairy tale, a long ago vision for one’s life can be more than just a dream. A clear vision and dreams are imperative for success. Clinging to that vision, mapping it out, can carry one through the drudgery of the hard work it will take to reach dreams. In the end, a vision can only be reached one step at a time, no matter how big or impossible it may at first seem.

Did you ever imagine that success could be in your grasp? That you have the power to make success come to you? You have the strength and the ability within yourself to make your dreams come true. Using the power of visualization and the law of attraction, you can take control of your life.

The secret is to focus on all of the positive energy that exists in the universe and harness it for your use. Even if times have been hard, it is possible to believe that better times are within your means. Don’t concentrate on the negative, the hate, and the worry that your so-called “normal” life brings you. Visualize goodness, prosperity, and peace. Take responsibility for your life. Use techniques like these to master the art of visualization.

Be True to Yourself. Take the time to decide what you really want in life. Look beyond riches, expensive homes, and other material things. Visualize who you want to be and how you can help others. Think about what you truly want to do and who you want to be.

Relax. To clear your mind you have to let yourself go. Stretch out in a comfortable place and engage in a relaxation discussion. Starting with your head, work downward, relaxing each part of your body until you reach your toes. Go slow; don’t move on until you believe that part is relaxed. You will be more open to the universe when you are fully relaxed.

Visualize. With your body and mind open to the universe, you can start thinking about what you want. Put yourself into the situation and imagine that you are there. If you want to find a new love, visualize yourself opening up to a new relationship. Imagine all the details; where do you meet? What do you talk about? How do you feel? Do your best to make it real. Imagine where you are, and what the surroundings look like. Smell the flowers. Hear the music playing from the radio nearby. Enjoy the feeling of getting what you want and need.

Reach for More. The idea behind visualization is if you can imagine it, you can do it. The person that you imagine in your visualization does exist! Reach past normalcy and become the person that you have visualized. Let yourself go and allow the positive energy that you have created within yourself to surround you. Use that power to make your dreams come true.

You Have the Power. The force of positive energy is strong. Channel the energy that you gain from visualization to help you meet reach goals. Success is out there – go get it!

Just about everyone sets goals for New Year’s and just about everyone misses them. Why is that? Just why is it so easy to lose motivation and end up not just missing goals, but falling far short of them?

Talk to anyone who hasn’t come close to their goals in the last year and you’ll hear things like “life got in the way” and “I didn’t have enough money.” These are just excuses and they cover up the real reason for failure. So, what are the real reasons behind not making those goals?

Procrastination. It’s very easy to put off something you need to do when you have a half dozen other things to get done. Most of us suffer at least sometimes from procrastination and the best cure is to just get up and do the job. No putting it off, just getting it done. This takes a certain amount of willpower, but it’s worth it.

Lack of commitment. Were you really committed to your goals or did you just make them because they sounded good? Unless you’re ready to do anything necessary to make your goals, personal or business, you will probably find a way not to reach them. Before setting any goals, decide whether or not you will actually work to achieve them. How far will you go to reach these goals? If the answer is “not far,” you need to consider a different goal.

No accountability. Without anything to keep you on the straight and narrow, how do you plan to stick to your plans? What if you lose motivation and procrastination rears its ugly head? The best way to ensure that you keep going is to have some sort of system in place that will hold you accountable. An accountability partner is a good way to go, but if you’re not up for that, consider a blog or weekly Facebook or Twitter postings to let the world know how you’re doing.

Failure is almost always the result of our own self sabotage. Whether you were committed or not in the beginning, you need to stick to the path you’ve planned. Often, people spend more time planning their goals and how to reach them than they do actually achieving them. If that sounds like you, it’s time to stop procrastinating and just start. Even taking one step toward your goal on a daily basis, no matter how small, will make a difference.

Goal setting is one of the most fundamental philosophies in life that you should give importance to if you want to give your life a purpose and direction. The world is full of infinite possibilities. You can design your life in any way you want and it all starts in creating a plan and establishing your goals. Your goals can determine the degree of success that you can experience when you have achieved them. What is your goal? There are short-term goals and long term goals. Whether it is a career goal, a relationship goal or a weight loss goal, setting your goals deliberately will yield more positive results.

A lot of people are caught up in the hullaballoo of everyday activities that they miss out on the opportunities that are only achieved with careful goal setting. Sure, a lot of people have big dreams in life. However, most of these dreams will become just that – pipe dreams. The problem is most people do not take serious action to achieve their dreams and goals in life. They leave it all up to lady luck to do the job and blame it on bad fate later on when things go wrong. If only people make concrete goals and follow through it no matter how difficult and sometimes impossible it may seem, there would be more happy people in the world.

So why is goal setting important? How can it make a difference in your life?

For one, it can give your life a purpose. Your life will become more meaningful when you are driven with passion into achieving something that will add value to your life. The way to achieving your goals may not be easy, but with great faith and determination you will get there. You can create your own roadmap towards your goals. This will help you to stay focus and conscious of the road you are treading on. Without a goal, you can easily get off track and before you know it you are lost in the web of life.

Secondly, goal setting can save you precious time. When you have already mapped up your goals, you know which direction you want to take. Hence, you will spend your time wisely and allot most of your time doing the things that are in line with your goal. Most people are living in regrets because of the wrong choices and actions they made in the past. While it is true that people learn from their mistakes, a time lost is gone forever. Hence, we need to spend our time wisely.

Goal setting also promotes self-development, creativity and brings out your potential. When you want to achieve something, it will motivate you to think smartly and creatively. You will devise and find a way to achieve it. Your goals will enable you to get out from your comfort zone and explore opportunities. Hence, one of the greatest rewards of having a goal is also acquiring values in life during the process which will help shape your personality and attitude for the better.

Goal setting is therefore a great way to add purpose, direction and meaning to your life and bring out your fullest potential while helping you achieve satisfaction and success.

A Global Positioning System (GPS) is a common tool that’s used to direct you to your intended location. It guides you to where you want to go. Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a GPS to guide you through life, to help you avoid the bumps, wrong turns and rough roads? Think about how a GPS works: you enter a destination and it gives you directions. It’s possible to program your life’s direction just like a GPS. Let’s look at the ways a GPS works, and try applying those ways to your own life.

Know Where You Want to Go. To get to your destination, you must enter an address. In life, you need to decide what you want in order to realize it. Make long-term goals, but focus on one goal at a time. You can only travel to one place at a time. Attempting to accomplish multiple goals is distracting and can lead you down the wrong road.

Push “GO.” Start down that road. Be willing to take action and do what is necessary to achieve your goals. Don’t delay. Take a class, join organizations, meet new people, and make new connections. Move forward.

Listen to Directions. The GPS is like a professional guide. In most cases, it knows the best route to your location. Listen and learn from people who have reached their goals; perhaps you can avoid some of the rough spots in the road.

Stay the Course. Follow the directions from the GPS. Don’t get waylaid by roadside attractions. In life, stay with your plan so you can reach your goals. Once you’re on your way, review your progress regularly to make sure you’re on track. Make adjustments as needed.

Reach Your Destination. Recognize when you have achieved one your goals. Take time to look around and enjoy your success. Be ready to make new, perhaps more ambitious goals to further your success. Remember, there are always new roads to explore.

Look Back. Review the route you took to arrive at your destination. Was it interesting? Did it get you where you needed to be? Review the path you have taken toward achieving your life goals. Are you satisfied with the outcome? Did you take the right path? What would you have changed? You may need to alter the map to your next destination.

Although it would be nice to have a GPS to guide you through life, it probably won’t happen anytime soon. However, you can apply some of the techniques used by a GPS to lead you to your desired destination. Good luck!

A lot of people struggle with self-esteem. Most people who are not successful are mostly those who quit too soon and those who do not have faith in themselves that they can do whatever they set their minds on. As the saying goes, whatever your mind can imagine, you can achieve. This is why one of the fundamental ingredients of boosting self-esteem is being able to achieve goals. By setting goals and achieving it, you will be able to see the extent of what you are capable of accomplishing and this will give you the confidence to push yourself further. The more goals you accomplish, the more confident you will become.

The process of achieving goals may be accompanied with a lot of challenges. The more difficult the goal is, the sweeter success becomes when you achieve it. Hence, once you start achieving your goals you will be setting higher and difficult targets each time as your confidence level rises. Goal setting is pretty easy to do. It is taking action that most people fail. There is no easy street when it comes to achieving a goal. This is why you must have the focus, determination and burning desire. Failures are part of success and it is at the time of great disappointments that most people also find greater opportunities. Hence, when you encounter failures or setbacks in your journey, it may just mean that you have to take another route towards your goals. But whatever route you take, keep your eyes on the target.

So how does one person starts his quest on acquiring self-esteem? One of the best ways to do this is by taking into account the achievements that you have had in the past. Start from when you were in school and jot it down on a paper where you can read it every day. You can also think about your strengths and how you can capitalize on them to achieving your new goal. Think of your weaknesses as well and devise a plan on how you can improve them. Write it all down so you can go back to it and reflect on it as needed. You can also use visualization to gain self-esteem. Visualize that you have already achieved your goal and get into the feeling of success. A lot of people find visualization effective in their journey to achieving success.

With a concrete plan backed with a mindset for success, you will have better chances of hitting your goal. Hence, you will have more confidence in your journey when you are guided with a success map. You can also surround yourself with positive people. Stay away from negative people as they will only pull your spirits down. Take on easier goals for a start and relish on your achievements. Once you have achieved a certain confidence level, you can gradually increase your target or goal higher. The more goals you achieve the more you will become a success magnet. This is because your subconscious is now working effortlessly towards your goals. Overall, your level of confidence will ultimately depend on the level of success you have acquired in your life.
